When we got the opportunity to make a limited edition of the new Freehand we wanted to do something more than just stick our logo to it. That’s too easy and without much invention. We’ve had many ideas but in the end we decided to pay tribute to a couple of our favourite things in one go. We wanted to take full advantage of the Freehands unique two colour design which immediately triggered a flashback to the legendary Gulf colour-way. The most famous engineering marvel which bared the famous orange and light blue scheme, was the Porsche 917 that Steve McQueen drove (and crashed) in the amazing 1971 movie Le Mans. One of the coolest machines ever made, driven by the coolest actor around a circuit with as much heritage as it’s virtually possible in the kind of a movie which is never going to be made again. To finish the racing theme Matěj Polák, our resident graphic designer, created the artwork, highliting our name and the town we are based in. We’re quite proud of the result and we hope you’re going to like the approach we took, even though it might be a bit unusual for a yoyo community.
